Dentistry

Evaluationof the teeth is an important part of your pet's annual physical examination. If tartar accumulation, tooth or gum disease is noted, then a dental cleaning should be scheduled for your pet. This will involve anesthetizing the animal, then cleaning its teeth with an ultrasonic dental scaler, which removes mineralized tartar from the teeth. The teeth are then polished smooth and a protective coat of fluoride is applied. Loose teeth will be extracted.

Just like people, regular dental care prolongs tooth life, improves the breath, and protects against internal bacterial infections in your pet. Owners will be informed about what they can do at home to promote dental health in their pet. These measures will increase the intervals between dental cleanings.
